Advanced Placement Environmental Science
(SE5XSEX1 and SE6XSEX2)

Full-year course. Students must take the AP examination May. Only Juniors and Seniors are eligible for this course.
Physics is a pre- or co-requisite.
Note: This course will meet 6 times per week to meet the Advanced Placement Lab Requirement. The 6th period will be scheduled during a lunch band.


Advanced Placement Psychology
(SY1XSFX1 and SY2XSFX2)

Full-year course. Students must take the AP exam in May. Only Juniors and Seniors are eligible for this course.
Physics is a pre- or co-requisite.

Advanced Topics in Science
(SD1HSDA1)

This lunch band 1/2 credit course is open interested students of all grades. Students will meet with their instructor 3 days per week. This course will help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to pursue individual interests in a variety of scientific areas.
Students should have a 90% or greater average in Science, or an 85 average in Science and their recommendation of a science teacher. Placement in this course is dependent on Departmental Approval.

Anatomy and Physiology -

This single semester course is open only to Juniors and Seniors.
Physics is a pre- or co-requisite.
Students must have grades of 90% or higher in Biology and Chemistry, or permission of the Department supervisor.

Completion of Regents Physics is a pre-requisite.

Biomedical Ethics

Single semester course.
Open only to Juniors and Seniors.

Cosmology - Space and Time: The Twin Dimension

Full-year course. Completion of Regents Physics with a grade of 90% or greater, or permission of the instructor, is a pre-requisite.

Organic Chemistry

Full year course. Open to Juniors and Seniors. Requires satisfactory completion of Regents Chemistry as a pre-requisite. Physics is a pre- or co-requisite.

Robotics -

This is single semester course is open to all interested students. This course may be taken again, with special permission of the course instructor.

This course requires satisfactory completion of Regents Physics as a pre-requisite and the approval of the instructor.


Science Research

Science Research I and II (SD1HSUP1 and SD2HSUP2)

This is a full year course open only to sophomores. Satisfactory completion of SL1HBIO-SL2HBIO and the approval of your Biology teachers are required.

Science Research III (SD3HSUP3)

Selection for this course is based on student interest, successful completion of SD2HSUP2, and the approval of your Science Research teacher.

Science Research IV (SD4HSUP4)

Continuing in the Science Research Program requires the student to commit to work through a minimum of 1, and possibly 2 summers in a research facility to conduct an independent research project. Written parental acconsent is required to continue in the program.

Science Research V (SD5HSUP5)

Students in SD5HSUP5 prepare their independent research projects for Intel, ISEF, Siemens-Westinghouse, JSHS, etc. Preference is given students who successfully complete SD4HSUP4, but that requirement may be waived at the descretion of the Department Supervisor.

Science Research VI (SD6HSUP6)

SH5HSUP5 is a prerequisite for this course.


Science at Queens College


A wide variety of electives are available at Queens College. Students who wish to take a Queens College science course must obtain the approval of the department supervisor. Juniors may enroll is specially designated, tuition-free College Now courses (for credit). Seniors may enroll in any science course for which they have the necessary prerequisites, but assume the responsibility for paying for additional credits beyond the 3 elective credit limit.
