Astrophysics
SRA1
and SRA2
The purpose of this course is
to provide the background
necessary to understand Cosmology
- The Creation of the Universe.
Starting with an examination of
the Sun, our Star, we go on to
study the life cycle of all
stars. The birth and death of
stars leads to an examination of
that most bizarre of all
astronomical phenomena, black
holes.
A study of our galaxy, the
Milky Way, is a prelude to a
discussion of Quasars and Active
Galaxies and finally to
Cosmology. We end with the search
for extraterrestrial
life.
This class meets five times
per week with no lab period.
Grades will be based on class
participation, exams and the term
paper.
