Psychology and Advanced Placement Environmental

Seniors
and accelerated Juniors possessing the requisite
Science and Mathematics skills may take courses
in Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Geology,
Physics or Psychology at Queens College for
which they earn college credit.

RESEARCH @ HARRIS
Townsend
Harris' Research Program continues to be a
dominant
force in high school
research.
The Science Research Program was featured in an
hour-long YOUNG
SCIENTISTS
that aired on PBS on September 6, 2003.
Students
interested in participating in Science Research may
take advantage of our outstanding three-year
Science Research Program that culminates in the
submission of an independent research project to
several prestigious competitions including
Siemens-Westinghouse, INTEL, the International
Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the Otto
Burgdorf Research Competition, and the Junior
Science and Humanities Symposium. Students in this
program can earn up to seven years of high school
science credit during their high school career.

Publications,
Academic Teams and Clubs:
The
Science Department sponsors The Quantum
Cat, a student run magazine which allows
students to combine their interest in science
with their literary and creative skills. It
includes student research, science articles and
science fiction as well as art and photography
related to the sciences.
The
Townsend Harris High School Journal of Student
Research contains the abstracts of our
students' award winning Science
research.
In only our third year participating in Science Olympiad, we fielded three teams in the NYC Metropolitan Regional Competition. Our #1, #2, and #3 teams, placed 1st, 7th and 9th respectively, capturing 24 medals and numerous top 10 finishes along the way. We are very proud of winning the City Championship!
Our Science Olympiad Team was one of the teams that represented NYC in the NYS Science Olympiad at West Point on March 9th and 10th. We are very proud of our 16th place finish and the 5 medals and 5 additional finishes in the top 10.
